All of your pencil drawings posted here are obviously fantastic, but I think your onion is over the top incredible. With the several light sources, making multiple shadows, and the translucency of the vegetable just makes it all really nice. The paper clips are pretty cool too.
All these sketches are so wonderfully rendered, you could almost pick them off the screen! Do you use a blending tool of any sort, or just really carefully lay then pencil down/
Thanks Tom! Sometimes I lay down what I call a "wash" in graphite, which usually means I will lay down a light to mid tone and blend it with my finger or a stump. Then I start shading the form with pencils ranging anywhere from 2H to 8B, or if I want a very dark black (like in this banana), I will also use a Prismacolor black colored pencil in the shadows. Then I pull out the hi-lites with a kneaded eraser. I almost always blend at least a little bit, but other times it is just nice to see the unblended linework.
Thanks TLC...I believe I used a 2H, a 5B and a black Prismacolor pencil. I usually limit myself to 2 or 3 pencils. I can pretty much get what I need from a2H and something with a "B" at the end. : )
If I have to tone a large area, I do have a 3B graphite stick I like to use. Blends easily with a finger, too, if you want to blend.
oh - my - god. This is just so incredibly well rendered. You can tell someone has done a great job when you can "feel" so clearly the texture of an object, as I could by looking at your sketches of the banana and the onion. And I absolutely love pencil/grafite-only sketches. You've got a new fan. Congratulations!
Your drawings are just beautiful, I felt like I could peel the onion! Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments, you are welcome to visit any time!
Oooo, thanks for sharing your technique. I will have to try it. Your drawings are always so realistic that it feels like I could pick the object from your pages! So good!

This banana would have been too far gone for me to eat because I like mine on the green side, but WOW...what a rendition!

How could you not eat it after looking at it for so long? :-)
Did you use all of the pencils you just mentioned in your last comment on it?

All of these sketches are just beautiful! The realism is amazing. Your shadows and pencil strokes are magical.
Your pencil drawings are amazing. I have a tough time keeping up with all of your websites, but this one is fantastic. Great work.

I like it very much. It looks just as smooth as it must have tasted.
